Link Popularity

Link Popularity is determined by the actual number of pages that have a link pointing to your web site. If these links are targeted to your business and your keywords, your link popularity will improve and become more clearly defined.

Link Popularity companies have sprung up overnight that would like you to believe that the quality of links that point to your site mean nothing. The sheer volume of links is not the most important factor in getting a higher ranking from link popularity in the search engine results pages (SERP). Links from pages that have a high Google PageRank but may have nothing at all to do with the theme of your site do not help with your link popularity either.

Link Popularity is described by Search Engine Google like this:

“Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

“Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search.”

Link Popularity is described by Search Engine Teoma like this:

“Instead of ranking results based upon the sites with the most links leading to them, Teoma analyzes the Web as it is organically organized—in naturally occurring communities that are about or related to the same subject—to determine which sites are most relevant. To determine the authority—and thus the overall quality and relevance—of a site's content, Teoma uses Subject-Specific PopularitySM ranks a site based on the number of same-subject pages that reference it, not just general popularity.”

“To better understand why taking this extra step is so crucial in delivering highly-relevant results, picture yourself in your garage, in front of the opened hood of your severely out-of-commission pick-up truck. You need help with this major repair, and you can either ask your uncle, who owns two cars but has never held a wrench in his life and happens to be visiting or you could phone your best friend, who has a degree in applied mechanics and builds automobiles from the ground up in his spare time The choice is quite clear.”

Good Link Popularity

Good link popularity, as both Google and Teoma agree, is built on links from within your own “community”  is essential in obtaining high ranking within the Search Engine Ranking Pages - SERP(s).

For link popularity, each search engine puts it’s own spin on interpreting who is an authority in any given theme. Generally all the major search engines take into consideration the following:

  • Important directory listings from: DMOZ, Looksmart, Yahoo, Joe Ant and others.

  • Inbound, outbound, and internal link relationships

  • Links having different IP addresses even from different Class C licenses. This prevents webmasters from building hundreds of links to themselves
